More thoughts on doodling, and another book

Yes!  I found this article in a recent newspaper, and promptly starting doodling on it as I read it.  It basically says exactly what I've been saying for years: doodling helps focus your mind.  I've been telling people for years, at meetings, classes, & workshops, that my compulsive doodling doesn't mean my mind is wandering and I'm not paying attention; conversely, it means I'm listening to every word.  The doodling keeps my mind from wandering. Yippee for this article for putting my thoughts in writing!  By the way, I've blogged about doodling before, and if you are interested, you can find some of those posts here.

And now another book to share, The House of East 88th Street by Bernard Wager.

Recently I saw in my newspaper that Bernard Waber died May 16 at the age of 91.  Some of his charming books were about loveable crocodile Lyle, who came to reside in a bathtub in a Upper East Side (NYC) brownstone apartment.  Waber was a native of Philadelphia and a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Art.  When I read the article, I dug out my old copy.  It was given to me as a gift on my 24th birthday.  By the way, I was a high school art teacher then, was single, and had no kids of my own, but my dear friend who gave me the gift knew that you are never too old for a good children's book.  And this one is definitely a treasure!

  1. I couldn't agree more! I have always felt the same way about doodling. Thank you for sharing. I will pass along. Shelly Pruitt- Drip Drip Splatter Splash
